Recording a New Album — Part 6.5

It’s been a while since I’ve posted an update on how the new record (entitled “Trust”) is coming along, so here’s a quick blurb on where we are in the process:
Chris Hobson (producer/engineer) and his wife had their baby (it’s a boy!), and after some time with their newborn, we’re back rolling again with recording. Next week I’ll be finishing up the last of my vocals and a couple guitar things before we start tracking background vocals. A couple of my friends will be helping me out in the bgv department early next month, and that’ll put a wrap on vocals!
My friends in Nashville are graciously finding time to record some horns for one of the songs, and through the glorious wonders of technology they can track it out there, send the files to me, and Chris can drop them into the existing session. Marvelous!
Last on the docket before mixing begins is keyboards. Being a keyboardist as well, Chris will be handling most of that responsibility. We already have places for piano, B3, Wurlitzer and even some DX-7.
I’m hoping to get some of the aforementioned on film to make another video update before we head to mix, because that’s looking like all that’s left for tracking. Things like that are always said with a disclaimer, however — you never know what a song will call for after you’re “finished” tracking.
I’ve also finished an album cover and liner notes design, including photography from my friend, Rob Mizell.
There it is — you’re officially up to speed. Stay tuned for further updates, and thanks for reading!
